Jake Martin of the Seattle Seahawks

Jake Martin

Jake Martin was recently drafted to the Seattle Seahawks.  He did not start playing football until High School.  He got a full ride to Temple and now drafted to the NFL.  Jake came to East York and gave a motivational speech about how it's never too late to become the person that you want to be!  He also hung around with the kids to play with them at recess!

East York Artists at the Demuth Museum

Congratulations to fifteen East York third grade students whose artwork was selected and displayed the Charles Demuth Museum in Lancaster, Pa. during the month of December 2017. Supported by the museum’s “Art in a Box” educational program, materials were generously offered by the museum for all students to learn about the life and art of Lancaster native, Charles Demuth.  Space was provided for several different school districts with artwork from kindergarten through senior high school.  Artworks were viewed and enjoyed by the public and an opening exhibition was given for all students, parents, and friends.  The following East York students’ artwork was featured: (front row, left to right) Aidan Kochenour, Zack Soriano, (second row) Jennifer Tran, Chloe Hill, Natalie Martin, Lola Santoro, Gabriella Harmantzis, (back row) Maya Wolpert, Geana Potts, Juner Laurence, Julia Gerber, Jonathan Stermer, Sara Youcheff, Paige Overmiller, Julia Bryant.

East York has School Spirit!

The Dragon Friends Club raised $654.55 to help those affected by Hurricane Harvery!  East York celebrated their kindness and generosity with a PIE Assembly!  Aidan Kochenour was chosen to throw a pie in Dr. Fuhrman's face!  Other staff randomly chosen were Mrs. Potts, Mrs. Barley, and Mrs. Valdez.

Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed

Junior Achievement Volunteers Needed!

East York Elementary is in need of more volunteers to teach Junior Achievement classes this year! The classroom teacher provides support and discipline. JA provides all the necessary training, lesson plans, and engaging classroom materials - all you need is enthusiasm and a desire to make a difference!

The time commitment is five visits to the classroom and each session is 35-40 minutes in length. You choose your presentation days and times directly with the teacher.

Instrument Donations

The York Suburban School District is looking for donations of gently used instruments that would help with beginner instrument students.  We have many students who would like to start playing an instrument but do not have the means to obtain the instrument.  ANY help would be greatly appreciated!  Let's help get an instrument in these students' hands.

Any questions can be guided to Ashley Markey at

Donations will be accepted at any of the district building offices.

Dress Code

 East York Dress Code Reminder

Students are expected to exercise good judgment in the selection of appropriate clothing throughout the school year.  *If clothing is deemed inappropriate, the student will be asked to change into acceptable attire.  Dress code expectations are as follows:

  • Blouses, shirts, and dresses with spaghetti straps (with shoulder straps less than three inches 3” wide) must be covered with a top or jacket at all times during the school day
  • Shorts/skirts need to be an appropriate length.  A good rule of thumb is mid-thigh length or past fingertip length.   Short skirts, short shorts or any display of undergarments are not permitted.
  • Muscle shirts, tops with enlarged arm holes, halter tops,  and bare midriff tops are not permitted.
  •  A student’s footwear needs to be suitable for gym and recess.  Sneakers are the best choice. Flip flops are permitted on non-gym days.

Thank you for your help in reinforcing the dress code expectations.
