           Demuth Museum Exhibition

Congratulations to East York third grade students whose art work was selected and displayed at the Charles Demuth Museum in Lancaster, Pa.  Based on the painting by Demuth called “The Figure Five in Gold”, our third grade students created designs depicting their own interpretations of Demuth’style. Sixteen were selected and an opening exhibition was generously offered by the Demuth Museum for our students, families, and friends.

Jackson Rudacille, Sophia Miller and Isaac Murray are pictured with Mrs. Mellinger at the Demuth Museum's Opening Reception on Sunday, December 7, 2014.

Fifth Graders "Digging for Treasures"!
Minimize

Students in fifth grade at East York Elementary were able to discover the world of ocean fossils in November. Classes for Mr. Weaver, Mrs. Barley and Mrs. Miller were given ocean fossil material from the Aurora Fossil Museum in North Carolina. Students were able to investigate their own fossil samples, looking for various types of sharks’ teeth, stingray barbs, shells, etc. Students were given identification sheets so that they could identify the many fossils in their samples. The best part of the whole activity was that students were able to keep any fossils that they found. It was a great day for hands-on science.

Congratulations to Daniel Paz

Congratulations to Daniel Paz, a third grade student at East York for winning the 2014 Art Poster contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania School Board Association.  Daniel’s poster was one of over 300 entries from around the state and he will receive a blue ribbon, a certificate, and an award.  His picture shows an artist creating a painting of the Eiffel Tower in France and the caption states “Public education is giving me the tools so I can paint a better future for myself.”  The poster was on display at the PSBA annual School Leadership Conference at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center in October, 2014.

Dress for the Weather - Brrr!

Now that the colder weather is upon us, it is important that our students be dressed warmly for outside activities.   Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for recess and Wellness class.

Please encourage your child to wear a warm coat, hats and gloves. It is also advantageous to dress in layers, so students may adjust clothing according to the temperature at the time of the outdoor activity.

Generally, the students have outdoor recess when the temperature is 20° or above.  The wind chill factors will also be considered in the decision to have indoor/outdoor recess.
Thank you for your helping your child stay warm during colder weather!

East York Dress Code Reminder

Students are expected to exercise good judgment in the selection of appropriate clothing throughout the school year.  *If clothing is deemed inappropriate, the student will be asked to change into acceptable attire.  Dress code expectations are as follows:

  • Blouses, shirts, and dresses with spaghetti straps (with shoulder straps less than three inches 3” wide) must be covered with a top or jacket at all times during the school day
  • Shorts/skirts need to be an appropriate length.  A good rule of thumb is mid-thigh length or past fingertip length.   Short skirts, short shorts or any display of undergarments are not permitted.
  • Muscle shirts, tops with enlarged arm holes, halter tops,  and bare midriff tops are not permitted.
  •  A student’s footwear needs to be suitable for gym and recess.  Sneakers are the best choice. Flip flops are permitted on non-gym days.

Thank you for your help in reinforcing the dress code expectations.
