Science Experiment
Minimize

Students in Mrs. Johnson's 2nd grade class took advantage of using the recent snowstorm as a science experiment. They learned the importance of compacting snow tightly, which led into a discussion why wet snow makes a better snowball. The criterion was that each snowball had to stay intact while moving it from hand to hand.   Most needed several tries but eventually all students were able to create the perfect snowball. On the count of three the snowballs were thrown at the tree. It was a lot of fun!

Writing Club

Twenty-four students at East York Elementary have decided to embark on a new journey with Mr. Weaver and Mrs. Hess this year. The group of 4th and 5th grade students is entering the Scholastic writing contest entitled Kids Are Authors. The students have been divided into three separate groups. Each group must create their own illustrated picture book. The students have been responsible for all aspects of the book including brainstorming the story ideas, writing the text and providing completed illustrations. The groups have been meeting weekly since January during a writing club class working towards our deadline of March 15. As our deadline quickly approaches we are excited to complete the amazing stories that have been developed.

East York Celebrates "Read Across America Day"
Minimize

East York celebrated Read Across America Day by having mystery readers share "Oh the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Seuss.

Students were able to watch the story via TV in their classrooms. They could hear the mystery voices while viewing

pictures from the story. Many were able to identify the voices: administrators of the past, present, and future!

Dr. Ketterman, Mr. Krauser, and Dr. Grove donned their Dr. Seuss gear and helped model good fluency. The children and

staff then grabbed a good book to read to celebrate reading together.
